Summary
You will serve as a LABORER in the Maintenance and Repair Branch, Production and Operations Division, Public Works Department of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Responsibilities
  • You will lift, carry, dig, handle and store all types of materials.
  • You will unload materials both bulk and packaged.
  • You will cover equipment and material stored in the open to protect from elements.
  • You will use a wheelbarrow to move cement to forms for construction of pads, walls, and other construction work.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a LABORER WG-3502-04 without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following: 1) Use hand tools and operate various types of equipment such as paving breakers, jack hammers, and spades. 2) Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, oral and written instructions. 3) Follow safety rules and regulations to perform general construction work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Duties may require arduous physical exertion. Employee may be required to lift up to forty (40) pounds. Heavier items will be lifted with assistance, or with lifting equipment. Work pace may be rapid for extended periods. Heavy exertion may be required at frequent intervals. Vision, color vision and hearing must be, (with or without aids) sufficient to perform duties assigned satisfactorily. Work assignments may require considerable bending, kneeling, pulling, walking and climbing. Employee must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, lifts and stairs.

HAZARDS:
Employee may be exposed to excessive elevations, sharp edges, toxic fumes, moving machinery, dust, dirt, grease, dampness, slippery surfaces, noise and unpleasant odors. Employee may be exposed to these mentioned hazards for various periods of time, as work assignments requires. Cuts, bruises, burns, fractures, electric shock and strains could result from working hazards.

WORK CONDITIONS:
Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather and temperature conditions during the day and at night. Exposure to high noise levels, vibrating equipment, slippery surfaces, and uneven surfaces may be encountered.
