Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 7,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, our farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Deputy Country Director (DCD) will be a part of the leadership team for one of One Acre Fund’s fastest growing country programs. We are looking for someone to build the people and systems efficiencies needed to achieve our scale targets. You will report directly to the Ethiopia Country Director and will directly manage the People and Systems teams (depending on your skillset, your portfolio may also include Government Relations).

Qualifications

Job Location
Addis Ababa, with 25% of time spent in Bahir Dar. The first six months will involve more time in Bahir Dar (50-75%) to better learn our team and culture.

As Ethiopia Deputy Country Director for Systems & People, you will:
Contribute to and implement country-level organizational strategy:
- Set and help achieve annual country-level goals and outcomes to achieve our 5-year targets for growth, staff development, efficiency and impact
- Identify and lead cross-department projects, like recruitment strategies, cost-saving projects or staff development programs
- Source and analyze data to advise on program strategy and maximize impact, retention, financial efficiency and other important metrics
- Directly manage our Procurement, Logistics, Finance, Human Resources, Training & Development and Corporate Operations workstreams and teams
- Determine metrics for these workstreams, set department-level goals and build clear paths to achieve them
- Recruit top level talent and mentor deputies to build leadership and role-specific skills to support our growing program
- Develop the organization’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion projects in Ethiopia
- Tap into local talent pools to hire top performers with potential for growth
- Pull on your leadership experience to train managers and build people processes that help managers to develop staff into leaders and managers themselves
- Develop Human Resources policies that support and grow staff at all levels
- Lead innovation within our operational systems
- Improve quality assurance, inventory management and vendor selection
- Evolve our systems and team to support rapid program scale and a changing technology environment
- Build data tracking and analytics processes, then use that data to drive system and program improvements
- Manage national government relations

Qualifications
- Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for (the DCD role falls into the job grade 6 category, with growth potential into level 7 in the long-term). For this role specifically, you should have:
- 6+ years of experience as a team lead, department head or general manager in a fast-growing organization
- Prior operations (procurement, logistics, etc) experience preferred
- Experience implementing new technology solutions (ex: rolling out a new inventory management or human resources management systems)
- Experience managing teams and developing leaders in a systematic way, including growth or expansion of teams or departments
- A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position
- Language: English and Amharic required
