My name is Guilherme Gazabim Country Manager for Svitzer in Mozambique, and I’m looking for a new Finance Manager to join my onshore team in Maputo.

In this role, you will get the unique opportunity to take on the responsibility of finance and the crewing function and will be overall responsible to lead things independently.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate and complete financial accounting / book-keeping of the Mozambique branch. Timely period-end closing of books and timely and accurate reporting of financials into the Svitzer group systems for consolidation.
  • Coordinate with the Regional Finance team in Dubai for with respect to fulfilling period-end reporting activities providing business storyline to the periodic financials and explaining variances vs. Target.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and experience in implementation of these accounting standards in periodic financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely billing of services to the customer as per the customer service contract. Monitor receivables and ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Implement and adhere to the Svitzer standard procurement-to-pay process ensuring that purchase orders are timely approved and processed, goods/services from suppliers are duly received in the systems and supplier invoices are matched with the purchase order and good received notes before payment to the suppliers.
  • Prepare bi-annual rolling forecast and budget process as per communicated guidelines supported with detailed underlying calculations for the profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • Execute Svitzer Key Internal Controls and file control evidence as per minimum control requirements and frequency, making sure that all controls are always in effective state. Implement and ensure adherence to Svitzer standard company policy in all operational and financial matters as relevant.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for timely and accurate conductance of annual audit and preparation of audited financial statements. Conduct any corporate secretarial work with regard to company’s governance requirements.
  • Owner and responsible for all accounting and regulatory matter of direct and indirect taxes as per local tax regime. Ensure timely and accurate submission of tax returns and other regulatory submissions as per requirements from local authorities.
  • Secure and keep valid all business and operating licenses and certificates for the company as required by the local authorities.

Crewing related tasks:

  • Assist with the maintenance of assessments for selection and recruitment of all seafarers using Class Marker.
  • Prepare Voyage Contracts / Joining letters / Guarantee letters and other documents as required.
  • Arrange visas, work permits, port pass, seaman’s pass, hotels and air tickets for all crew movements as required.
  • Coordinate with vessel ship agents, where required, for assistance with arranging port passes, customs clearance, husbandry etc.
  • Maintain up-to-date personal, medical and training records and certification details of all seafarers and marine services personnel on Crew Inspector.
  • Provide all necessary information and coordinate for Crew payroll for employees with relevant approvals from country manager

We are looking for

  • University degree in Finance & Accounting with minimum 5+ years experience in Financial Reporting & Control. Chartered Accountant (ICAI, ACA, ACCA or CPA) qualification is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong financial acumen with knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Governance, Risk & Control frameworks. Prior experience in internal or external audit.
  • Attention to details. High sense of urgency.
  • Hands-on prior experience in accounting using Navision or MS Dynamics and reporting of financials into OneStream.

  • Prior industry experience in towage and transportation is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience in crewing is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Articulate in written and spoken Portuguese and English. Excellent communicator who can structure information and communicate a clear message to all relevant stakeholders.
