Department Definition

The Communications, Marketing & Sales department takes an integrated approach to raising awareness of and amplifying Expo 2020’s rich and diverse value proposition, driving engagement, participation and visitation both locally and internationally. The department also seeks to support the positioning of the UAE more widely, as well as enhance the impact of the Expo in both the pre and post event phases including its long-term legacy. The Marketing & Communications team is responsible for the overall positioning of Expo 2020 in domestic and international markets. This includes creating compelling stories and campaigns for a wide range of audiences across a breadth of platforms, liaising with internal and external stakeholders including Partners and International Participants to ensure consistency in message and identify opportunities for collaboration, and building relationships with local and international media. The team is also tasked with maintaining Expo owned channels including digital and social, upholding the integrity of the Expo 2020 brand across all touchpoints, facilitating commercial media partnerships, providing technical and content services to broadcasters, and managing sponsorship and brand ambassador relationships.

Opportunity Responsibilities

The Media Liaison Officer is responsible for driving Expo 2020’s strategic and substantive narrative, engaging top-tier media, planning and delivering strategic campaigns, managing internal and external stakeholders, and protecting the reputation of Expo 2020 and the host country.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Support the development and delivery of strategic, proactive communications that secure positive media coverage for Expo 2020;
  • Fulfil role as part of the Expo 2020 crisis communications team as required;
  • Role is twofold: to support activity on the ground based in the Expo Media Centre, responding to the journalists needs and to respond to the needs of the media globally who may be remote, ensuring that we provide them with the content they need to cover Expo remotely;
  • Produce and maintain Powerpoint, Word and Excel templates for use by the Communications team;
  • Drive the communications for Expo programme activities, pushing material to the media on the Programme for People and Planet, business programme and the events and entertainment programme;
  • Prepare material for daily media briefing, ensuring spokesperson is properly briefed and provide background insight on global trending news and Expo news agenda.

Skills

6+ years’ experience in a PR agency working on high profile clients, managing multiple clients,

as well as:
  • A bachelor’s degree within a relevant field;
  • Must have proven event experience with clients, ideally working on mega events;
  • Experience of managing a range of stakeholders, including media;
  • Excellent writing skills – able to write quickly and accurately press releases, features, Op-Eds, briefing books;
  • Excellent English communications skills, both written and oral;
  • Experience in working within a team, supporting others but accountable for own work and a self-starter.
