Role Purpose
This post will provide effective financial management for two projects: Better Migration Management Project, a highly successful EU-funded programme currently in its second phase of delivery until June 2022 and for a new EU funded regional project currently under development.

Challenges & Accountabilities
The ideal candidate will have vast experience managing projects across multiple locations. You will lead on financial management of the programme, overseeing and managing financial planning, systems, processes, control, budgets and policies. The ideal candidate should have vast knowledge of financial systems as they will lead on finance-related activities ensuring they are established and deliver to the required standards to enable successful project delivery. Part of your responsibilities will be to evaluate the financial performance of the projects regularly, together with the Project Board, partner organisations and Regional Finance Team. You will ensure all systems and documents developed are in full compliance with British Council corporate standards and country legal and financial requirements. The role will maintain financial records and financial information for the project, in line with British Council information management standards and donor requirements; and will ensure all project activity is financially compliant (both corporately and according to the contract), cost-effective, delivers value for money and meets British Council and client requirements.

As with any business that experiences peaks and troughs of activity, there is likely to be a need to work outside office hours from time to time.

Essential Requirements
  • The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:
  • High level of Amharic and English language (IELTS 6 or above equivalent).
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or any other similar qualification with at least 3 years of experience
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a comparable role(s)
  • Track record of key finance function in international / multinational organization in similar context
  • Experience in procurement of services and goods and contracts

Desirable requirements
  • A recognized professional finance and /or accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Familiarity with EU policies and procedures
  • Knowledge about grants, CSO financing, foreign donations rules and regulations
  • Technical knowledge and/or experience of SAP
Additional Information: Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in the country the role is based.
