
Job Description
The planning journalist is a senior member of the editorial team responsible for planning and generating future story ideas and assignments for Sky News Arabia's television and digital platforms. You will work closely with the Director of Newsgathering, bureau, senior news editors, executive producers and digital team, attending the key editorial meetings and overseeing a small team of planning producers. You will play a lead role in shaping upcoming coverage for Sky News Arabia. You will also ensure the team maintain forward diaries and develop contacts with relevant organizations and guests. Extensive experience working on both planning and news/assignments desk and as a producer or reporter in the field is a necessity as well as a keen interest in delivering quality coverage not just for our 24 hour rolling news channel but for Sky News Arabia’s digital content.Key Responsibilities:
- Direct planning colleagues in their tasks and performance.
- Encourage the team in finding case studies, briefing news editors and senior managers on all planning and logistical issues.
- Prepare and supervise diary entries, gather news information, source guests and filming and online opportunities.
- Liaise with reporters to help them develop broadcast packages and digital content.
- Liaise with guest booking teams.
- Ensure team are seeking relevant permissions and clearances for filming.
- Other newsroom duties in news gathering or output as required by 24-hour news cycle.
- May be required to work on location on big news stories.
Key Skills, Experience and Education:
- Significant experience of working in the news media industry in an editorial leadership role.
- Extensive existing contacts with news sources.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team of subordinates and superiors.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to manage workload, set priorities and lead others.
- Self-starting and ability to think laterally.
- Problem solver.
- Fluent in both written and spoken Arabic and English.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in television news channels.
- BA degree in any media discipline an advantage.
