About the Role
The Role
You will be required to work within the whole school and class environment to support the student of determination by assisting Class, Subject and Inclusion teachers in providing effective instruction to students with diverse learning needs.

You will assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the student of determination and to maintain complete confidentiality on all school matters. You will adhere to all school policies.
Support will be provided in the classroom or in Common Learning Environments. The focus and impact of your support will be routinely reviewed and attendance to weekly CPD is compulsory. This regular training will ensure you remain effective in your role.
The role of the LSAs is to support this process by aiding the classroom teacher in the development of a stimulating and productive learning environment. LSAs should be trained in using different approaches to lower barriers to learning, and to facilitate student engagement and participation within relevant and meaningful learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Support for pupil
- Supervise and facilitate individual provision in an inclusive setting by providing appropriate resources, coaching and support.
- Supervise student of determination in a small group or one to one differentiated activities in class or common learning environment as directed.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively with student of determination to support their learning, promoting self- confidence and independence, being mindful of their wellbeing. Assist in developing their social/emotional skills.
- Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop student of determination’s competence and independence in its use.
- Supervise at play/leisure breaks, as agreed with the Class/Inclusion teachers, in times of transition between lessons and activities and on arrival to class and before departure.
- Attend swimming lessons, either to be on the side of the pool or to enter the water, as required by the Head of Inclusion and the Head of PE.
- Support intervention and/or therapy sessions.
Support for the Teacher
- Contribute effectively to the lessons and assist in setting out learning materials appropriate to planned activity for the student of determination.
- Work with teachers to monitor the progress of the student of determination. Function within a framework set by the assigned teacher, to plan your role in lessons including how you will provide feedback to the student of determination and colleagues on their learning, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Monitor their participation and progress, providing feedback to the teacher and parents and provide constructive support to the student of determination as they learn. Annotate work with description of support given and resources used to complete the task.
- Administer assessments, invigilate exams and undertake routine marking of student of determination’s work as directed by teachers.
- Knowledge of strategies which support positive behaviour to meet school expectations.
- Support ethos of the learning environment
- Ability to effectively communicate with pupils, parents and colleagues. To contribute purposefully to their team.
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Competent Literacy, Numeracy and IT skills at required level.
- Attested Degree/ College certificates
- Spouse/ Family Sponsorship
- Police Clearance certificate
Experience
- Previous relevant experience working with students of determination essential.
- This includes involving the LSA in assessment processes, record keeping, lesson-planning, and resource development.
