Job description
Are you a self-starter who is passionate about animal welfare? Are you highly motivated in supporting vulnerable pet owners?

Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Last year, Dogs Trust centres cared for over 9,000 dogs; we never put a healthy dog down.

Dogs Trust Freedom Project is a pet fostering service for people fleeing domestic abuse. The project also takes referrals from pet owners and various agencies, including the police service and local authority housing departments. However, most of our referrals come from women fleeing domestic abuse via women-only services. Our service then places dogs into volunteer foster homes on a temporary basis until their owners are able to be reunited with them. Each foster placement is continually monitored and volunteer foster carers receive ongoing support and advice. Pets are then either returned to their owners once they are settled in a new home or rehomed via one of our 20 rehoming centres.

The Co-ordinator for East Anglia is responsible for the overall day to day delivery of the service and line management of 2 full time Assistants. This is a very varied position with a split between day to day management and development tasks and working hands on with our foster dogs. The Co-ordinator takes responsibility for overseeing all dog referrals and placements, as well as recruiting and supporting a pool of volunteer foster carers. There is also an amount of stakeholder liaison with other agencies, including referrals agencies, animal welfare/fostering organisations and vets. The postholder will work closely with the Regional Manager, the Freedom Project team and other internal departments to promote, review and develop the service including delivering presentations to professionals or members of the public as required.

The Co-ordinator will be a confident, personable self-starter who is passionate about helping animals and people. They will be experienced in assessing and handling a wide range of dogs in a working environment. They will also have experience of delivering a similar sized project/service, with staff management experience and knowledge and/or some experience of working with volunteers. Part of this role involves transporting dogs in a small van primarily across East Anglia with some travel to other Freedom Project regions, so a full UK driving licence and experience of driving as part of a previous role is essential.

Due to the nature of this role, this post is for women only and is exempt under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010

Please note -A Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for this role
