Head of Data and Planning
• Based in Central London office
• Permanent & full-time working 37.5 hours per week
• Salary up to £50k depending on experience.

At Pearson College London, we now have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Data & Planning to take responsibility for the preparation and submission of student data to external bodies, ensuring that returns are compliant with regulatory requirements. The role is also responsible for the taking a lead role in developing and implementing a framework of analytics and data governance to drive institutional performance at the College, and for analysing management information (including the key outputs of student data and their implications) and communicating the findings of these analyses to staff at all levels across the College, and promoting the effective use of them.

You’ll need a sound understanding of the data requirements of Higher Education in the UK and of complex database and spreadsheet queries. This is essential, as is an aptitude for analysing, understanding and validating large data sets. The ideal candidate would have excellent time management skills, be able to work autonomously on various tasks but also work well within the team and with colleagues across the institution to improve data quality. You’ll need excellent communication/relationship building skills, as you’ll be collaborating with colleagues across our organisation including: Head of Student Services, SITS Team, Deans, Programme Directors, Student Experience Teams, Deputy Vice Principal (Academic Affairs) and Quality Teams.

Your Key Responsibilities
• Ensure institutional regulatory compliance with key agencies. Lead the submission of student statutory returns required by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), OfS and other national bodies, such as the HESA Alternative Provider, Graduate Outcomes, UNISTATS amongst others. Take a lead role in any audits by either organisation.
• Develop and maintain professional links with HESA, OfS and relevant statutory bodies, acting as the institutional contact point as required.
• Develop a framework for institutional performance management and use measures and incentives to drive performance and deliver strategic plans; this will involve performance reporting and provision of insight to ensure that the College has the best chance of delivery.
• Develop innovative approaches to the collation, analysis and presentation of data in order to promote enhancements in College performance. This includes leading the development and implementation of effective data governance arrangements across the College.
• Lead on the management and analysis of core College/sector surveys, sector benchmark data and College data to present key performance information, provide expert advice and insights on performance improvement initiatives that will maximise the College’s competitive advantage.
• Ensure management information systems and frameworks are fit for purpose and provide the accurate information and analytics that the College requires to reliably inform strategic planning and forecasting.
• Research and analyse information to provide expert advice supporting strategic decision-making.
• Respond to scheduled and ad-hoc data requests from Pearson College staff, including the preparation of reports for the purpose of planning and management information.
• Assess the impact of the data in external submissions on the College’s position in league tables and identify where improvements to policies and practices can have the maximum reputational benefit for the College.
• Monitor changes to the specifications of the key statutory datasets and recommend changes to systems and processes to accommodate these changes.
• Liaise with the Head of Student Services and the SITS team to ensure statutory updates to the Student Record System (SITS) are tested and applied in a timely manner.
• Act in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding data collected and held by the College.
• Participate in user group forums and events relating to statutory data.
• Monitor the integrity of student data and make recommendations to the Head of Student Services where system or process change is required to maintain or improve data integrity.
• Work with the Head of Student Services to develop systems and practices to enhance data management processes and improve data quality, both to improve the standard of external reporting, and to meaningfully inform strategic decision-making.
• Assist with consultation responses and/or funding applications as required.
• To undertake other duties from time to time as deemed appropriate by the Head of Student Services as and when required.
